Buildbase £100k Transfer Deal winners AFC Darwen
“Our pitch and changing facilities have been completely revamped – and it looks like Wembley!”
This was the excited response from AFC Darwen’s chairperson, Sarah Hindle, speaking about the non-league club’s new-look facilities, supported by the Buildbase £100k Transfer Deal.
The club was one of last season’s first round winners, receiving up to £25,000 of building, electrical and hire products provided by local Buildbase branches at Bolton and Preston.
Renovations involving Buildbase included the club changing rooms, while other club supporters have funded a new 3-G pitch and tarmacking of the perimeter.
Buildbase renovation – changing rooms
AFC Darwen’s changing rooms have been patch-repaired many times over the last 40 years: Sarah said: “Our changing facilities were in a very poor state of repair, barely fit for purpose and generally not very nice surroundings for the players that use them; they also had a negative impact on our ground grading.
“Now, the revamped changing rooms will make a huge difference to the men, women, girls and boys who play and train here each week and we are proud to be able to welcome teams from the larger community as well.”
The refurbishment means AFC Darwen can now provide a high standard of facilities to both home and away teams and offer a medical treatment room connected directly to the pitch for easy stretcher access if a player is injured.
The improved facilities have enabled the club to introduce a range of new teams, including Ladies’ First Team, Ladies’ Reserves, U15 Girls, U12 girls , U12 Boys, U11 boys, U7 boys and “Little Darreners” bringing the total teams to 19, of which all teams will train or play on the new facilities at the WEC Group Anchor Ground.
Any clubs or organisations that would be interested in hiring the new facilities please send all enquiries to email@example.com
With the addition of a 3-G pitch at AFC Darwen, all scheduled matches for all the teams should go ahead this season – avoiding the problem of a water-logged pitch from previous years. The club is hopeful this will have a positive effect on team training sessions, performance in matches and allow increased use for the teams in the community.
Sarah added: “We appreciate the support from Buildbase and others massively, with special thanks to Mike Vizzard and Elaine Littler for helping us win the Transfer Deal, John Deal and Geoff Wilkinson from North West Counties Football League for their advice and guidance throughout the project and, finally, Andrew Illingworth-Turner at Buildbase and Mark Pover from the FA.”
